Mental health

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” — Albus Dumbledore

Mental health not just refers to the state of emotional and psychological well being rather it refers to the state where an individual is able to use their emotional and rational capabilities, to meet demands of the society in a productive manner.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10 every year to make people more aware about mental health by organizing campaigns and seminars.

During physical illness the pain and suffering can be seen in the daily chores but mental illness makes person suffer from inside fighting their own thought process without showing a tinge of it to the world.

Various factors contributing to mental health are trauma or abuse, stressful work conditions, rapid social changes, gender discrimination, social exclusion, unrealistic expectations and physical illness. Depression, anxiety disorder, stress, panic, and grief are some outcomes of deteriorating mental health.

People suffering from mental health show various symptoms such as little energy to too much energy, no appetite, losing temper quickly, insomnia, suicidal thoughts and tendencies, inability to express themselves, pushing people away and constant fear of judgment from society.

The constant point of having basic life necessities does not mean a person cannot have mental health issues. If a person is unable to get minimum six hours of sleep even after much physical exhaustion indicates that his/her brain in still working to put undesirable and negative thoughts into their mind which make them question their worth and leads to suicidal thoughts. They start to think that they are a burden to the people around them and feel disconnected to their loved ones. They are constantly on edge and a slightest noise, happening or a comment can put them off.

The core reason due to which people hesitate to come forward is the stigma of mental health in current society which labels it as something non – existent. People need to remove this stigma attached to this illness and make an effort to educate themselves as well as people around them. If this illness is not treated at the right time with proper measures by experts under the support and care by close ones, the consequences could be grave.

A helping hand of a trustworthy person can help them to open up about their feelings which remain bottled up inside them. Consulting an expert to analyze their thoughts and feelings can help them to cope up with their thoughts, feelings and behavior. They can also offer guidance and help improve person’s ability to achieve life goals.

A good mental health leads to happiness and satisfaction. It helps you to understand the feelings of people around yourself and spending more time with your loved ones. It leaves you full with enthusiasm, positivity, and productivity. You will be able to complete all your tasks with full efficiency and take a step closer to achieving your life goals.
